Wholesale mango prices rocket

The wholesale price of mangoes in the UK is up by 145 per cent year-on-year.

Analyst Mintec released an update on the exotic product claiming there is currently a shortage of good quality mangoes due to a variety of problems with world supply.

“The hurricane season has disrupted Caribbean supply, cyclones have hit southern Asia, shortages due to mild, damp weather have been reported in Australia and storms have devastated the Philippine supply,” Mintec said.

Most of the world’s mangoes are produced in India (40 per cent) and China (11 per cent) with Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia and Brazil all producing around five per cent.
