Robin Whitbread has resigned as group buying and marketing director at Somerfield with immediate effect.
Whitbread, who was also managin g director of Somerfield's Kwik Save chain, joined the group in 2002, having previously served as a director at Sainsbury's. Today's Financial Times attributes his departure to a failed bid to become Somerfield chief executive officer, a role which was given to Steve Back last month.
Katie Bickerstaffe has been appointed group retail director, with responsibility for Kwik Save retail operations, and Soimerfield will appoint a new buying director in the near future.
