Featuring limbo dancers and Caribbean music, the Western's themed party was held on October 27 at the Hotel Inter-Continental in London's Park Lane.

Welcoming guests to the dinner, host and chairman of the market's tenants association George Bray said: 'We consider our market to be the best horticultural market in the UK – and intend to make sure it stays that way.' Sean Kinsella and his wife were top-table guests, in honour of Kinsella's four decades of service to the market. Wishing everyone in Western International success for the future, he said: 'I hope you get out of it in the next 40 years what I have got out of it in the last 40.' Also honoured at the event was Norman Fogden of Vitacress, retiring from a trade he had been in since the age of 14.

Sue Bray and Peter Gilham, communications manager of Brentford football club – Western's local team, which on the night stood two points clear at the top of Division Two – and Sue Bray presided over a charity tombola. A total of £3,000 was raised and will be divided equally between the Western International Benevolent Fund, The Royal Star & Garter Home and the Ealing Hospital children's ward.

Victor Hugo & the Mambo Boyz & Dancers and the Denny Wise Band provided entertainment.
