The Western International annual dinner and dance took place at the Royal Garden Hotel, in Kensington on Saturday evening.

Tenants association chairman George Bray told 300 guests that, while the timescale had changed for development of the market, discussions were progressing and 'Western International will continue at the top of our industry.

'The tenants association has undertaken a tremendous amount of work again this year regarding our redevelopment, at a huge cost in regards to both time and money,' he said. 'We have worked closely with the London Borough of Hounslow to ensure continued success for both now and in the future.

'Timescales have slipped, but I am fairly confident that our aims will be achieved and that Western International will remain at the forefront of our industry.' He thanked all of the committee members for their work towards an agreement, and singled out peter Sharp, who has worked in Brentford and Western International markets for 50 years, and 'been a loyal member of the market committee for nearly 30 years,' said Bray.

An array of prizes were raffled for the market's long-standing chosen charities, the Western International market Benevolent Fund, Royal Star & Garter home and the children's ward of Ealing Hospital. Although a final figure has not yet been calculated, the amount raised was in excess of £3,000.
