Peter Wensak, managing director of Polehouse Nurseries based at Manningtree, Essex has been honoured with a Bright Ideas Business Award. The award is sponsored by Nat West and presented by the East Anglia Society of Chartered Accountants. Wensak won the accolade for the extensive work he has done in the reduction of pesticide use in soft-fruit production. Polehouse Nurseries has farms in north Essex and Norfolk and a substantial glasshouse operation.
The marketing organisation that handles Wensak's fruit, The Summerfruit Company, congratulated Wensak on the achievement and also for his contribution to the gold-medal winning Best of British stand at the Chelsea Flower Show last week. The Essex grower was further honoured when strawberries he had grown were presented at Chelsea to the Queen.
