Well Pict Scotland is aiming to boost its production by 50 per cent and develop its grower base this year.
The supplier is interested in talking to like-minded growers in order to develop the supply of high-quality, locally grown berries in Scotland.
The business started out in October 2005 when director and fourth-generation strawberry grower Andrew Cranston worked from home in Carnoustie, renting 50 acres of land.
The sole aim was to replace imported strawberries with fruit grown locally in Scotland.
A further 36 acres were planted in the spring of 2007, following a strong 2006 season, and this took production up to 650 tonnes.
Aurel Voiculescu, director of Well Pict Scotland, said: “Due to huge customer demand, our plan for 2008 is to increase our production be 50 per cent.”
