Weed Talk, part of the Bayer CropScience-sponsored Weed Focus initiative, will publish a new management strategy based on feedback from UK growers.

The company is appealing for growers and agronomists to submit details of their worst weed problems to the project.

Experts will then select situations most typically representative of the UK crops to create a treatment programme.

Gordon Anderson-Taylor at Bay CropScience said: “There can be a feeling that weed control options are running out. While growers know their farms and know their most difficult weed problems, the best way to manage weed populations is perhaps not always obvious.”

Growers often struggle to manage the same persistent weeds each year, according to Anderson-Taylor.

He added: “Through Weed Talk we want to use real situations to highlight that even the most testing of weed situations can be effectively managed to keep land productive long term.”

Details of weed problems can be submitted to Weed Talk at www.weedfocus.co.uk.
