The packing facility was left gutted by fire

Wealmoor is to relocate back to the firm’s processing premises to Atherstone following the fire that gutted the facility two years ago.

The company will relocate its operation over a phased transfer in the next few weeks, ceasing work at a temporary facility in Tewkesbury.

The fire ripped through the Atherstone on Stour vegetable packhouse in November 2007 and killed firefighters Ian Reid, John Averis, Darren Yates-Bradley and Ashley Stephens.

The warehouse, formerly owned by liquidated firm Bomfords, had been bought in July 2007 by Wealmoor and renamed Wealmoor Atherstone.

Avnish Malde, commercial director at Wealmoor, said that the return to Atherstone is a step forward in restoring the company’s operation in Warwickshire, following the fire that gutted the premise in November 2007.

Malde said: “Since early 2008, we have been working hard to ensure that our warehouse in Atherstone returns to operation.

“This is not only because we have a real responsibility as one of the largest employers in the area, but also to ensure that we can continue to deliver the best possible service to our customers.

“While the return to the warehouse is a progression for Wealmoor, the tragic events at Atherstone in 2007 will never be forgotten.”
