Water and energy on Horti Fair agenda

Water and energy will be the headline themes of this year’s Horti Fair exhibition in Amsterdam.

The show will be held several weeks earlier than usual on October 9 to 12 this year. Organisers said that central themes were chosen in response to current developments in international horticulture.

“Water and energy are essential to the production of horticultural products. The emphasis used to be on increasing production, improving quality and savings on costs. Now that these productions factors and becoming scarcer, social and political interest is growing,” said Horti Fair executive director, Wim van der Loo.

“Scarcity gives impetus to innovation and innovations can also contribute to safeguarding the social and economic position of horticulture.”

The themes will come through at the show through a discussion at the Horti Fair Interpolis Symposium, held in Noordwijk two weeks before the exhibition. There will also be a theme route following a path around relevant exhibitors displaying the concepts.

Organisers have also altered the opening times for this year, with the event now running from 10am to 7pm each day. 50,000 visitors from over 100 countries are expected to turn up.
