Washington crop estimates revised

Apple growers in Washington are predicting a larger crop than initial estimates over the summer suggested.

Larger production of Gala and Golden Delicious, which are picked early in the harvest, have led to the predicted rise in volume, according to local paper the Yakima Herald-Republic.

Keith Mathews, executive director of the Yakima Valley Growers-Shippers Association, told the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce that the revised crop estimate is for 101.6 million boxes, as opposed to the 99.6m boxes predicted in August.
