The Washington Apple Commission (WAC) has announced its new president is to be Todd Fryhover, who has twenty years’ experience in several leading apple shipping companies.

Cragg Gilbert, the WAC chairman, announced last week that, after a meeting in Yakima, the commission had chosen Todd Fryhover of Wenatchee as the new WAC president.

Fryhover was reportedly chosen from a strong list of applicants for the position due to his background and experience in developing foreign market sales opportunities for Washington Growers.

Fryhover has an Agricultural and Business degree from the University of Idaho, funded by a football scholarship. He has worked for several leading apple-shipping companies over the past twenty years, including Chief Wenatchee Growers, Dovex Export Company and Sun Chief Marketing, where he was managing partner.

“Todd’s 16 years in international sales will serve the industry well in meeting the new challenges the Washington apple industry faces in the foreign markets today,” said Gilbert.

The WAC has an international budget of $8 million (£5.4m) and 13 international marketing representatives covering 27 markets worldwide.
