The final session of this year’s Re:fresh Conference is co-branded with the PMA, the leading US fresh produce trade association. PMA president Bryan Silbermann will share the stage with Bruce Peterson, senior vice president at global supermarket giant Wal-Mart, himself a long-standing servant of PMA’s cause.

Peterson joined Wal-Mart in 1991 as produce director of the then new supercenter division. After several promotions, in 2001 he became senior vp of perishables. Prior to Wal-Mart, he worked for retailers Bakers, Meijer and Tom Thumb. He has spent 30 years in the grocery industry starting in his hometown Detroit packing groceries for shoppers part-time.

His PMA service includes terms on the retail division board, including chairman, and terms on the PMA board, including this upcoming year as chairman of the executive committee. He has served on many boards and task forces in the produce industry. One of the most memorable experiences in his professional life was being honoured in 1997 as The Packer Produce Marketer of the Year.
