Waitrose's great regional and unwashed

Waitrose has successfully launched the latest addition of its award winning regional offer last week.

The ‘unwashed regional salad’ bag is available in 60 stores across East Anglia, the South East and the West Country. The salad mix, supplied by The Herbary, Intercrop and The Watercress Company (TWC), contains the best produce available from the region at the time and is packed on the farms by the growers.

“This concept was formed like many of our recent projects, when the buyer Claire Young was visiting growers and discussing innovative opportunities”, said Tom Amery of TWC. “The support has been outstanding and this has been measured by the quick to launch timeframe.”

Gabi Maddern, regional co-ordinator fruit and vegetables for Waitrose said: “The scheme has grown, with sales increasing by 270 per cent in the last year, and we are delighted to introduce new products such as regional salads.”
