Presenting the award to Rik Connor, of Fruition, in association with Waitrose, Ian Mitchell, chairman of the Bramley Campaign commented on the retailer’s recognition of Bramley as worthy of support and particular attention.

He said: “Waitrose has achieved its success not by cutting prices but by selling the products at prices which reflect their quality.”

The retailer also walked away with one of the two prizes given for the best Bramley dessert, other than pies, for its apple crumble. And it was runner up in the best savoury product category for its English pork & fresh Bramley apple sausages.

Meanwhile, Asda picked up the Bramley Pie (individual) award for its Extra Special-branded Caramelised Apple Pies.
