Waitrose unveils expansion plans

An multi-million investment programme for new store openings is being put together by Waitrose.

The move could see the upmarket retailer, which forms part of the John Lewis Partnership, open up to 50 new stores in to the next five years.

The company will put the finishing touches to its spending plans this month but, according to The Sunday Times, 10 new sites have already been identified for opening next year.

The retailer has decided to roll out its new-look store format, which has been trialled at in the capital at its branch in Marlyebone High Street, across its 183 stores.

Waitrose will also launch a food hall at the John Lewis department store in Oxford Street next month.
