Waitrose second favourite store for UK shoppers

Waitrose has made an amazing leap in the list of UK shoppers’ favourite stores.

The John Lewis owned supermarket chain jumped from number 20 on the list, compiled by retail analyst Verdict, up to number two, as its efforts to attract greater numbers of customers through its doors pay dividends.

It was good news all-round for John Lewis. The group’s eponymous stores topped the chart, knocking Ikea off its perch for a prestigious one-two.

The Verdict “consumer satisfaction index” was, perhaps surprisingly, not such good news for some of Waitrose’s high-street grocery rivals.

Tesco, the UK's largest supermarket group with 1,800 stores, came 33rd.

Verdict questioned 6,000 customers about where they shopped most frequently, resulting in a list of 67 retailers.

Respondents were then asked to rate the stores in terms of range, price, convenience, quality, service, ambience, facilities and layout.
