Waitrose retail director leaves after three decades

Waitrose has announced Tony Solomons is stepping down as retail director after 30 years and Rob Collins is to take his place from January 2012.

Collins moves from the position of personnel director, which will be taken up by divisional registrar Helen Hyde.

Managing director Mark Price said: "Both Rob and Helen bring to their new roles a wealth of experience and a proven track record within Waitrose - their leadership will be invaluable to their respective directorates as we enter the exciting next stages in our development."

As Retail Director, Rob Collins will lead retail operations for Waitrose branches nationwide, along with holding responsibility for Waitrose e-commerce, convenience and hospitality offers.

In her new role as Personnel Director, Helen Hyde will oversee a directorate that delivers personnel, occupational health, learning and development support to more than 46,000 staff, known as partners as they are co-owners of the business.
