Bergamots

Waitrose has added a line of fresh bergamots.

Often seen in essential-oil form in Earl Grey tea and beauty products, bergamot citrus is grown in southern Italy. The products, which look like lemons, are a seasonal variety with a short growing window.

The retailer recommends that shoppers use their zest and juice as an ingredient to add a new twist to gin and tonics, salad dressings or marinades.

Waitrose Cooks' Ingredients Unwaxed Bergamots are on sale at selected branches until 11 March priced at £1.99 for two fruits.
