Waitrose ‘mans-up’ with fiery macho salad

Waitrose has cracked out its toolbox and started mowing the lawn to create a new macho salad.

The new creation, dubbed the “man salad”, is aimed at piggybacking the “macho trend” in trying to find the hottest curry dish or chilli sauce on the market.

The Waitrose Hot and Fiery Salad features an eye-watering combination containing inferno rocket and nasturtium leaves that are exclusive to the supermarket. It will be sold in 180 Waitrose branches priced at £1.49 per bag.

Greek cress and radish leaves complete the peppery mix, which also includes butterhead.

Sales of watercress, rocket and spinach salad bags at Waitrose surged by 73 per cent in the past year. Hot and Fiery Salad is part of a new range of Menu From Waitrose salads grown in Lincolnshire for the supermarket.

The range of salads will be available over the summer and features the Hot and Fiery Salad, Rustic Country Salad, Inferno Rocket Salad, Bistro Salad and English Garden Salad.

Waitrose salad buyer Rhonwen Cunningham said: “Salads are changing because of [the spicy]trend so we decided to man-up our salad aisle by launching what we believe is the hottest mix of leaves that’s ever been sold by a supermarket.”
