Waitrose is significantly expanding its online delivery service, Waitrose Deliver, according to an article from the Financial Mail on Thisismoney.co.uk.

The chain plans to extend the service to more than a third of its 190 stores in coming months - double the number that could offer the facility last summer.

This all comes despite Waitrose parent John Lewis Partnership owning 25 per cent of retail delivery rival Ocado, which sells products chiefly supplied by the supermarket chain. Ocado makes almost ten times as many deliveries as Waitrose Deliver.

The expansion of Watirose Deliver could confuse customers, many of whom assume that Ocado is Waitrose in all but name, according to retail experts.

Waitrose managing director Mark Price set up Waitrose Deliver eight years ago when he was marketing director, and the current expansion is thought to be driven by him.
