Waitrose finds sea legs with new veg

Waitrose is offering three different sea vegetables this summer.

The retailer is working with a grower in the Midlands to bring samphire and sea aster to its fresh fish counters.

Waitrose fresh produce buyer Rhonwen Cunningham said: “Samphire became so popular during 2010 that customer demand outstripped our supply.”

A third sea vegetable called Okahijiki, originally from Japan, is to make its UK supermarket debut at Waitrose in late June.
