Waitrose continues summer success

Waitrose has continued its healthy summer growth, with sales and market share showing a steady rise in its latest report.

The premium retailer announced a 15.9 per cent rise in sales to £84.3 million today after a successful summer.

Waitrose's market share now stands at 3.9 per cent, up from 3.7 per cent in 2008, according to latest figures.

Waitrose’s Essentials range has been key to the retailer’s success as the value offer continues to boost sales, despite the difficult economic conditions.

Parent company John Lewis said sales rose 12 per cent last week as the department store chain ended a run of three weeks of weaker trading figures.
