Waitrose is laying claim to being the first retailer to stock UK grown cherry tomatoes, from the Isle of Wight.
The produce will be available on-shelf from this Sunday and the retailer said it is the first time ever UK tomatoes have been available in January.
A spokesman said: “The Claree variety, grown by Roger Simms at the Waitrose nursery on the Isle of Wight, is currently being harvested to go on-shelf this weekend.
“There are no artificial means by which these tomatoes have been grown, they are simply available because climate levels have been better than normal.”
