Waitrose awards logistics contract

Waitrose has awarded a contract to Gist to become a logistics provider for components of its primary transport operations.

Gist, which specialises in fresh food supply chains, now collects 400 pallets per week from Scottish Waitrose suppliers for consolidation and onward movement from its Bellshill depot.

Gist has incorporated some contractors previously employed to enhance its service.

Kit Woodward, supply chain development manager at Waitrose, said: “Waitrose has a reputation for providing the highest quality fresh food and it’s essential that our suppliers are also committed to delivering the highest quality service. Gist has extensive experience in fresh food logistics and they offer the levels of quality, service and value that we require to meet our customers’ expectations.”

Gist ceo Martin Gwynn said: “Gist has more than 40 years of experience in the fresh food supply chain industry. We’re delighted to be given this opportunity to put our expertise in practice for the Waitrose primary supply chain to deliver their business with the quality and value their customers expect.”
