Vitacress is hoping to tap into one of the fastest growing markets with its new range of washed and ready-to-eat bagged salads.

The company claims its branded watercress and baby leaf salads will be delivered from field to bag in under 24 hours during the UK season, and it hopes the attractively packaged range will bring added value and choice to retail fixtures.

Huw Griffiths, marketing manager at Vitacress, said: “We have researched the market and discovered that consumers are buying on visual appearance rather than price. We have developed our cool chain to deliver even fresher product.”

He said the UK ready-to-eat bagged salad market has a retail value of £400m.

“According to TNS, household penetration is now approximately 70 per cent, up four per cent this year, which clearly demonstrates the profit potential of quality bagged salads,” he added.
