The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has launched a consultation process that seeks views on what the new front-of-pack nutritional labelling system for food should look like.

The consultation has been produced in collaboration with the Department of Health and asks interested parties how they want the new hybrid system for displaying nutritional information to be presented and positioned on food packaging.

Once the consultation closes on 27 February, the department will use the responses when it makes its national recommendation on the content and look of the new system.

BRC deputy food director, Andrea Martinez-Inchausti, said: “This is a great example of how retailers are leading the way in helping customers to make informed choices about the food they buy. Our members are working closely with government to find a sensible and consistent approach to providing this nutritional information, which works best for customers.”

The consultation is open to anyone and is accessible via the BRC website.
