Kids are as likely to like veg as hate it

When it comes to veg youngsters either love them or hate them, a recent survey revealed.

While carrots, broccoli and peas topped the list of favourite vegetables for a number of toddlers, they had equal footing on the “yucky vegetable list” for others.

These findings gave weight to the conclusion that children are more sophisticated and opinionated than many adults give them credit for.

The survey by major childcare provider Asquith Nurseries found most of the 1,500 three-to-five year-olds interviewed preferred intensely-flavoured food to bland.

And while they are often still fed traditional kiddie meals like chips, sausages and pizza, they welcomed much more exotic fare.

Curry was the favourite for one in five children, with sweet-and-sour and spicy chicken also rating highly.

Meanwhile, the children showed an instinctive preference for healthy options, with orange juice and water chosen over fizzy drinks and yoghurt chosen over cake.
