Valentine's rush for roses

Lovers across the UK rushed to buy red roses today, to mark Valentine’s Day.

This is one of the biggest days of the years for florists, the majority of which were up late last night and again early this morning to meet the high demand.

Extra staff have had to be drafted in, in some cases.

UK supermarkets slashed their bouquet prices in time for February 14.

Grand Prix Rose luxury bouquets were on sale today at Lidl for £24.99, while standard bouquets retailed at £3.49.

Asda and Tesco have also slashed prices, with Asda selling a dozen red roses at £2, and Tesco coming in at £4.75.
