US apple growers are reporting a higher proportion of larger size Washington Reds this year.
But George Smith, from the Washington Apple Commission, said quality is good. “Ninety-one per cent of Reds are in the Washington Extra Fancy grade. But in some areas as much as 59 per cent are count 88s and larger.”
Washington Pinks and Fuji harvesting has still to be completed but early indications suggest the fruit is showing a more even size pattern.
