Chile’s Unifrutti Traders has just signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Kiku SrL/GmbH which will grant Unifrutti worldwide market opportunities for Fuji Brak and Fubrax apples grown under the Kiku® brand in Chile.

As one of Chile’s leading top-fruit, stonefruit and grape exporters Unifrutti has almost 5,000 hectares under production, either of its own land or through strategic provinces throughout Chile in all the major growing areas. Unifrutti has also acquired rights on other apple varieties including Ambrosia and is one of only two appointed licensees for the southern hemisphere. It is planting 100 hectares in the Los Angeles area 500 km south of Santiago with Ambrosia, Fuji Brak and Fubrax, among other varieties over the next two years.

“We are very excited about this programme, as we will be able to offer our growers a new apple variety characterised by its good colour, lack of russet and fabulous flavour,” said Jorge Massanés, Unifrutti executive vice president. “We expect to supply many markets, especially the Far East and the US where these apples are much appreciated. Besides, this will enable to use the unique blue box and the logo of Kiku®, which will ensure our product, is always recognised.”
