Under 40s growers group announces events

The biennial conference for fruit growers under 40 to meet peers and learn about different growing techniques will be in Poland in 2013, it has been announced.

The informal Under 40s Fruit Growers Group came together more than 20 years ago and embraces the “work hard, play hard” philosophy.

Attendees will spend three full days visiting research centres, plant breeders, orchards, fields, tunnels and vineyards and understanding the Polish fresh produce industry.

In the evenings, the organisers say conference attendees can expect sociable meals with “an opportunity to study in depth the alcoholic specialities of the host country while forging great new friendships with fellow fruit industry characters”.

The Under 40s Fruit Growers group is run by volunteers from across the industry and its trips abroad are heavily subsidised thanks to its sponsors.

The group has also said it is hoping to see lots of new faces at its visit to Thanet Earth in Kent on 23 February 2012.
