A report has indicated that carrot prices in the Ukraine are 50 to 60 percent higher than at the same time last year.

Data published by ‘Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables weekly’ showed that because of the summer drought across Europe and a smaller cultivation area for the crop, yield has dropped, leading to the price rise. The price is set to rise further in the second half of the autumn, when growers start to move harvests to storage.

The report said that the industry expected carrot prices set to beat the records of ‘several previous years’ this winter.

Imports from neighbouring countries could also set a record this season, with carrot prices in Russia 50 to 70 percent lower than in the Ukraine, and prices in Poland 2.2 times lower.
