UK Tenderstem arrives early

UK Tenderstem broccoli has arrived on shelf earlier than last year in its second year as a widely available supermarket product.

Due to unseasonably warm spring weather, domestic Tenderstem, usually in season from mid-June through to mid-November, first hit supermarket shelves this year on 26 May.

Last year’s British Tenderstem sales totalled 400 tonnes and represented around 20 per cent of overall Tenderstem sales in the UK in 2010.

It is predicted that the 2011 domestic Tenderstem season will deliver a total of 480t to the market - an increase of 20 per cent on last year’s crop.
