Home-grown garlic production has come on stream following a two- to three-week delay to the start of supply.

The slow start was caused by the weather conditions experienced at the beginning of the season but supplies are expected to get back on track if the warmer temperatures continue.

The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight has expanded from 30 acres to 44a this year.

Darren Rayner, sales manager at The Garlic Farm, told FPJ: “Garlic is not the only crop be affected by the weather this year. Asparagus was late, as were a lot of home-grown crops.

“However, the bulk of the crop of the crop will come out on time, assuming this weather continues. We are harvesting green garlic and elephant garlic as we speak.”

The firm had a stand at last week at Taste of London in Regent’s Park, where it showcased its range as part of the small producers’ pavilion.
