UK raspberries: best in decades

Promotional body Seasonal Berries is promising the best tasting raspberries for decades this UK season, after a slow season has allowed the berries’ flavour to develop.

Due to mild and wet weather in May, this season’s crop has grown more slowly than usual, allowing flavours to develop into what is expected to be the best tasting raspberries for decades.

The berries will start to arrive at supermarkets from mid-June, and supplies are expected to continue until September, due to the UK season being extended by the introduction of new varieties and protective tunnels.

Seasonal Berries represents more than 85 per cent of berries sold in UK supermarkets year round. Last year, UK consumers bought more than 7,500 tonnes of home-grown raspberries, making them one of the UK’s favourite fruits.
