Total UK potato production for 2001/2002 is below the four-year average, according to the British Potato Council's (BPC) latest figures.

The BPC has estimated total production at 6.41 million tonnes, 55,000t below the 1997-2000 mean of 6.465mt.

This latest estimate is the same as the November 21, 2001 figure, calculated using field leavings of 17 per cent.

Meanwhile, main crop harvested yield and subsequent harvested yield in 2001/2002 are 44.8t/ha and 43.8t/ha, respectively. And end November calculated stocks 2001 are estimated at 3.966mt, compared to 3.534mt in 2000.
