Tibbett & Britten (T&B) has won a multi-million pound logistics contract with Carrefour in Spain. The UK-based logistics provider has won the contract to cover the operation of a purpose-built distribution centre (DC) near Valencia for a five-year period. The 13,000sqm DC will be in operation from the end of July and will handle storage, packing, assembly and distribution of fresh produce all over southern Spain. The T&B group will have total responsibility for the design, build, equip and operation of the warehouse, as well as owning it. The UK service provider will provide the services of picking, packing and assemblage of orders in a variety of fresh produce, including fruit and vegetables, and distribute the orders to 22 Carrefour hypermarkets and 20 Champion supermarkets and Punto cash & carries.
T&B managing director Saad Hammad said: “We have provided a high quality fresh produce logistic service to Carrefour in Spain for many year though from a smaller centre and covering a smaller region. The new five year agreement demonstrates the high confidence that Europe’s largest retailer has in our services… we look forward to helping them improve service at the sales point and making delivery lead times for fresh produce even shorter.”
The new DC will be equipped with state of the art warehouse management systems and be equipped with a fruit packing facility and several temperature control chambers for storage and an additional 50 staff will be recruited for the project.
