UK wholehead and baby leaf lettuce growers are taking advantage of opportunities for export to continental Europe this summer. One grower said: “They have had some very hot weather in the Netherlands and although we already have programmes to export, we have been asked to do more.” Supplies to the UK market have remained strong and supermarkets are promoting on price. Another supplier added: “The weather we are having means this is definitely a salad summer and if it presents some opportunities to export, so much the better.”
