UK growers needed for Vegexchange.com

Vegexchange.com is calling out for UK growers to join its local fruit and vegetable exchange system. The new website, designed specifically for consumers and small growers to conduct business in their individual local areas in Britain, has been inundated since it opened in July 2007 with requests from consumers looking for local fruit and vegetables, but is finding it more difficult to attract local producers.

“We’ve got about 500 members so far, which is quite good being as it is not really the growing season,” said James Sharpe of Vegexchange.com. “There has been a lot of interest in finding local food from consumers, but it is just a matter of getting the growers on board now and trying to get them to trade with their produce.”

It is free to become a member of vegexchange.com and users can add their geographical location on a Google map of the UK, along with the fruit or vegetables they have to offer and their contact email, for consumers to access. Consumers can then make contact with the growers and arrange to buy or exchange their home-grown produce.

Vegexchange.com is welcoming in small UK-based companies that grow fruit and vegetables, such as farm shops, box schemes and small commercial growers to join its network.
