UK-based school meals provider Chartwells has opened new kitchens in two African schools as part of its strategy to feed school pupils in Malawi.
The kitchens will feed 3,159 children daily and have been set up in partnership with international charity Mary’s Meals.
Chartwells has also produced a resource pack for use in each school's lessons that explores topics such as the benefits of access to healthy food and health care.
John Carlin, business director for Chartwells said; “We are really proud to be part of such a worthwhile initiative, playing a key role in ensuring that the children at Chimvu and Goliati schools receive the right nutritional fuel they need to concentrate on learning."
Abeer Macintyre, head of supporter care at Mary’s Meals, concluded: “The life changing meals made from fresh produce that we provide in Malawi attracts children to school, giving them a chance to lift themselves out of poverty in later life.”
