UK blueberries surge ahead

Latest data from British Summer Fruits (BSF) to the week of 29 August show that UK blueberry supply has risen 50 per cent year on year to 800 tonnes thanks to an early start.

With some fruit still in storage, the total for the season could reach 1,000t compared to last season’s 700t.

According to the organisation, suppliers have been working smaller pack sizes in recent weeks in order to eke out availability at the major retailers until Argentinean fruit comes on stream.

Meanwhile, the blackberry season is running 20 per cent ahead of last year also due to the early start. BSF is featuring the fruit heavily in its promotional material with recipes and videos.
