Twelfth annual Brammy awards launched

The 12th annual Brammy Awards launched today, with judging scheduled for July 15.

The Brammys are a highlight of the Bramley apple year, recognising and rewarding companies in the various sectors of the supply chain, manufacturers and the media who have made the most of Bramley’s superior culinary properties and unique flavour.

This year, for the first time, no prizes will be awarded without an official entry submitted by the retailer or manufacturer. To get recognition, entrants must ensure that they complete a form before the closing date of July 7 2005.

The results will be widely publicised and will be included on the Bramley apple websites: www.bramleytrade.co.uk and www.bramleyapples.co.uk. Winners can also benefit from putting the award logo on pack or in menus.

Ian Mitchell, chairman of the Bramley Campaign, said: “The Brammy Awards are not only a celebration of all things Bramley, but also a great opportunity for us to thank those who have supported the campaign throughout the year. Bramleys are an incredibly versatile ingredient, a fact that is reinforced by the sheer volume and diversity of Bramley products available to customer and consumers. Last year’s winners ranged from a delicious frozen Bramley Apple Pie from M&S to an innovative Lavender Jelly with Bramley Apples from Wild & Fruitful.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing the entries for the 12th annual competition.”

To accommodate the increased variety of products available, there is a range of categories to enter.

This year’s categories are:

• Best Bramley Apple Pie (family)

• Best Bramley Apple Pie (individual)

• Best other Bramley Pastry Product including Crumbles

• Best Savoury Bramley Product
