Natures Way salad conveyor

Poor consumer demand and inclement weather in the UK saw Natures Way Foods suffer a drop in profit.

For the financial year ending 28 March 2014, the salad and prepared fruit supplier - which employed 764 members of staff - saw its pre-tax profit drop from £6.3 million, to £4.9m.

Turnover, though, was up from £113m to £121.5m.

In the statement accompanying the accounts, posted at Companies House, Robert Langmead, director and co-founder of Natures Way Foods, said: 'The financial year has been challenging for the industry as a whole. Company results have been constrained by consumer demand and unfavourable weather in the early part of the year resulting in products being sourced from outside of the UK.'

Looking towards the future, Langmead added: 'The directors expect the general level of acitivty to increase in the forthcoming year, with a positive outlook for the future. This is as a result of the introduction of a number of new product lines.'
