Turkish figs are beginning to arrive after a slight delay to the start of the season.
The product, which usually arrives on these shores towards the end of August, has only just began to arrive with certain wholesalers.
Damian Fowler, a director at New Covent Garden Market-based Gilgrove, said his firm had yet to get any in, and was unsure as to why this was the case.
In its latest weekly trade update, though, Total Produce noted that it now had the product for sale: 'The first of this season’s figs are coming in from Turkey. Prices are already beginning to ease and no doubt they will soon be their usual excellent value.'
The season runs to November.
