Turkish exporter Mango is aiming to take annual UK sales to €10 million after it opened a UK base last week.

The Luton branch was registered last month and will focus on sales of citrus and vegetables including courgettes, aubergines, cherry tomatoes and leeks.

The company has nine bases in Turkey and turns over 36m lira (£14m) a year.

Duygu Kultur, regional sales chief executive at Mango, said: “Our main priority is to keep our market share in the UK and try to increase it for both citrus and vegetables. We are on track to reach our target; citrus is going well and vegetables are getting started but we want to be the main contact in the UK for Turkish vegetables. That is our aim because Turkey is already well known as a citrus supplier, but not for vegetables.

“We know that buyers might not have had the best experience with smaller companies, but we want to break that impression.”

The move comes ahead of proposals to open an office in Russia and a distribution hub in the Netherlands is expected within the next three years.

The firm was set up in 2000 and became a plc in 2007.
