Logistics services for the export of Tunisian fresh and frozen produce have been opened by Societe Commerciale Tunisienne (SOCOTU).

The facility will form part of the LauritzenCool Logistics (LCL) global network that covers countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia with a focus on the main production and consumption regions for fruit and vegetables.

SOCOTU and LCL will jointly offer service packages to its customers based on a combination of sea and land transport to minimise costs.

The SOCOTU head office is located in Rades, close to some of the main producing areas for citrus in Tunis and near the main ports for export and import of perishables to Tunis and other Mediterranean countries.

Rafael Llerena, managing director of LCL Mediterranean, said: “Together with our partners SOCOTU we shall achieve our wish of focusing on the local possibilities and constraints and then tie them into our international net of transportation and service systems.”

Aberderrahmen Tounsi, commercial manager of SOCOTU, added: “Our office network throughout the Tunisian territory and our deep know-how of the market allows us to see combined trucking business with seaborne perishable cargo. This will give us increased possibilities to offer D2D logistics on a global basis for perishable cargo from most main sourcing areas.”
