TSB Citrus, based in the Nkomazi region of the Mpumalanga Lowveld, has become the largest citrus exporter from South Africa to Eurep Gap certification.

The South African Bureau of Standards, through its certification arm, Global Conformity Products were accredited by Eurep Gap to undertake the certification process in South Africa.

In order to obtain certification, TSB Citrus, had to comply with a vast and varied array of specifically measurable standards.

TSB Citrus produces around 3m cartons of export citrus annually on three large estates totalling 1,500 hectares. The product mix consists of five grapefruit and three orange varieties. The products are packaged at TSB's three modern packhouses from where they are transported for export.

'The Eurep Gap certification enables TSB Citrus to further enhance its status as a globally competitive producer of a range of high quality citrus fruits that comply with the requirements of various demanding international clients,' said Dr Hoppie Nel, general manager, TSB Citrus.
