Market Square, Northampton

A popular fresh produce trader will run as an independent candidate for Northampton South in next year’s general election.

Eamonn ‘Fitzy’ Fitzpatrick, who has a stall at Northampton’s Market Square, will attempt to replace current Northampton South MP Brian Binley.

Fitzpatrick has been a member of the Green Party up until now, but has said he wants “one last throw of the dice” to become an MP.

He told local newspaper, the Northampton Chronicle, that he had enjoyed his time with the Greens and has generally agreed with their ideas.

He was critical of the Tories for introducing “sweeping cuts” and said the Liberal Democrats had been a “big disappointment”.

“UKIP don’t tell you if we pull out of the EU, the price of fresh fruit will treble,” he told the Chronicle. “As for Labour, don’t even go there,” he said.
