Total Produce, the demerged produce marketing and distribution business of Fyffes, officially opened its new 33,000sqft distribution centre on Tuesday.

The state of the art facility at Sighthill, Edinburgh and represents a relocation from Fyffes former premises in Edinburgh Fruitmarket on Chesser Avenue.

Total Produce ceo Rory Byrne is confident the centre will provide a better service to its customers and thanked them for their patience during the period of transition.

The centre was opened by Andrew Kerr MSP, the minister for health & community care in Scotland. Speaking at the ceremony, Kerr said the new facility will “make a real difference and by decreasing the distribution timescale, there’s a better chance consumers will get a better deal”.

The unit houses a 1,000sqft ripening facility room which can handle 24 pallets and up to the minute technology and refrigeration controls have been installed in the warehouse and chill cold rooms.
