McCain Foods (GB) has announced that it will become the first frozen food manufacturer in the UK to use only British potatoes for the productions of their full range of chip products.

The development follows similar announcements from Walkers and Sainsbury’s on using 100 percent British potatoes for their crisps earlier in the year.

McCain has also taken the decision to carry the Red Tractor logo on all packaging for their chip products.

This commitment, support and recognition of British produce and growers sends a positive message to both industry and consumers, according to the NFU.

"It is heartening to see that the logo and what it represents in terms of British origin and stringent production standards is being supported by McCain, an important customer to UK agriculture and well recognised consumer brand. The NFU fully supports this latest development which will help reassure potato growers of McCain’s commitment to British produce in this highly competitive sector," the union said.
